The 5,000m final unfolded as a tense, tactical contest with constant momentum shifts. Gulveer slipped to sixth place with eight laps remaining as the leading group managed the pace.

Patiently tracking the movement ahead, he moved up to fourth with four laps to go, closely trailing Kenya’s Cornelius Kemboi, before positioning himself into third spot with three laps left.

The tempo accelerated sharply as the bell rang for the final lap, with Gulveer momentarily dropping to fifth. Unfazed by the surging pace, the Indian long-distance star launched a powerful late charge midway through the final lap, briefly driving past Australia’s Ky Robinson. While Robinson reclaimed second position to secure the silver in 13:24.70s, Gulveer fought off a fierce final straight push from Kemboi.

Gulveer crossed the finish line in 13:24.95s, beating Kemboi by just four-hundredths of a second to claim bronze. Kenya’s Mathew Kipsang took gold with a winning time of 13:23.61s.
