Abhay Singh is the second Indian man ever to reach the Asian Games squash singles final, after Saurav Ghosal’s runner-up finishes in 2014 and 2022. The World No. 26 moved into the final in style, dispatching Pakistan’s Muhammad Irfan in straight games, 11-3, 12-10, 11-6, in the semi-final.
A gold medal here would complete a full set for Abhay, who previously won team gold and mixed doubles bronze at the 2022 Hangzhou Games.
Abhay will have his work cut out for him, however, with Malaysia’s Eain Yow Ng standing between him and the title. Yow Ng is the top seed and reigning champion, who beat Pakistan’s Noor Zaman easily 11-7, 11-2, 11-4 in the other semi-final.
World No. 18 Eain Yow arrives as the more experienced finisher on the biggest stages, having also picked up individual Asian titles in the past, and he will start as the favourite.
