India added seven medals to its tally on day 7

India enjoyed another productive day at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, adding seven medals on Saturday, September 26. The Indian contingent won two gold, three silver, and two bronze medals across kabaddi, shooting, athletics, and squash.

The Indian men’s and women’s kabaddi teams won gold medals, while Tilottama Sen, Vidarsa Vinod and Ashi Chouksey secured silver in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event.

Athletics produced three more medals, with Sawan Barwal and Tajinderpal Singh Toor winning silver and Prachi Choudhary taking bronze. Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar also won bronze in squash.

India began the day with a historic silver from Sawan Barwal in the men’s marathon, clocking 2:11:37 for India’s first Asian Games marathon medal in 44 years. Kartik Karkera finished 17th in the same event.

Tajinderpal Singh Toor won silver in the men’s shot put with a best effort of 20.64m, while Karanveer Singh finished 10th. Prachi Choudhary added bronze in the women’s 400m with a 53.21-second personal best, while Kiran Pahal and Vishal Thennarasu finished fifth.

Harita Bhadra and Unnathi Bolland qualified for the women’s 200m final, while Animesh Kujur reached the men’s 200m final.

Nandhini Kongan advanced in the women’s 100m hurdles, while Jyothi Yarraji did not start. Gulveer Singh and Yoonus Shah qualified for the men’s 1500m final.

Tejaswin Shankar led the decathlon standings after five events, with Thoufeeq Noushad eighth. Karthik Unnikrishnan finished sixth in triple jump, while Praveen Chithravel was unable to compete after an injury during his opening attempt. Parul Chaudhary finished fourth and Pooja sixth in the women’s 1500m.

Shooting added another silver, with Tilottama Sen, Vidarsa Vinod, and Ashi Chouksey finishing second in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event. Tilottama and Vidarsa reached the individual final, finishing fourth and fifth respectively, while Ashi missed qualification.

India’s men’s and women’s kabaddi teams both secured gold medals after defeating Iran in their respective finals. The women’s team won 37-34 before the men’s side completed the double.

In squash, Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar won bronze in mixed doubles. Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh reached the women’s and men’s singles finals, respectively, assuring India of two more medals.

Indian archers completed qualification across recurve and compound events. Dhiraj Bommadevara topped men’s recurve qualification, while India finished second in the men’s recurve team event.

Taniparthi Chikitha topped women’s compound qualification, with India second in the team event. The women’s recurve team finished sixth, while the men’s compound team finished third. India also topped mixed-team compound qualification.

Boxing saw Kapil Pokhariya and Priya Ghanghas advance to the quarter-finals in the men’s 90kg and women’s 60kg categories after 5-0 victories. Jadumani Singh was eliminated in the men’s 55kg event.

In badminton, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand reached the women’s doubles quarter-finals. Ayush Shetty lost to Chou Tien-chen in the men’s singles Round of 16, while Unnati Hooda progressed. Lakshya Sen had earlier exited after losing to Loh Kean Yew.

Table tennis saw Manush Shah lose 0-4 to China’s Lin Shidong in the men’s singles Round of 16, while Yashaswini Ghorpade had earlier lost to Miwa Harimoto. India had already secured its first table tennis medal through Manush and Diya Chitale in mixed doubles on Day 6.

Updated Indian Medal Tally After Day 7 at Asian Games 2026

India’s medal tally stands at 30 medals, comprising four gold, 12 silver, and 14 bronze medals, leaving them placed 10th in the overall medal standings.

Kabaddi has contributed two gold medals, while shooting has won 11 medals, including one gold, six silver, and four bronze. Athletics has contributed eight medals, comprising four silver and four bronze.

The remaining medals have come from cricket, weightlifting, wushu, badminton, mixed martial arts, rowing, soft tennis, squash, and table tennis.

What to expect from the Indian contingent on 27th September?

India will have another busy day, with athletics, badminton, boxing, archery, shooting, squash, kurash, and equestrian in action.

In athletics, Manju Rani and Priyanka Goswami will compete in the women’s marathon race walk final, while Tejaswin Shankar and Thowfeeq Noushad will complete the decathlon.

Shaili Singh and Ancy Sojan Edappilly will contest the women’s long jump final, and Sarvesh Kushare and Aadarsh Ram will contest the men’s high jump final, while Harita Bhadra, Unnathi Bolland, Animesh Kujur, and Nandhini Kongan will feature in their respective track finals. Ankita Dhyani and Parul Chaudhary will compete in the women’s 3000m steeplechase final.

Badminton will enter the quarter-final stage, with Indian shuttlers in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto are through to the mixed doubles quarter-finals, while Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will feature in the women’s doubles last eight.

Boxing will have Indian quarter-final action, while archery will feature compound, recurve, and mixed-team elimination rounds.

Shooting will see the women’s 25m pistol precision stage and men’s and women’s trap qualification. Squash will have its singles and mixed doubles medal rounds, while India will also be in action in kurash and equestrian dressage. Table tennis has no Indian player remaining.
