Indian table tennis contingent ended their campaign with just one medal
Manush Shah was a part of India’s mixed doubles team that bagged the bronze medal along with Diya Chitale on Friday. That will remain India’s only medal in table tennis from the Asian Games 2026.
Interestingly, India had clinched a bronze medal through Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee in the Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou, China.

Miwa Harimoto too strong for Yashaswini Ghorpade

India’s Yashaswini Ghorpade had her task cut out against Japan’s world No. 3 Miwa Harimoto in the women’s singles Round of 16 clash.
The 21-year-old, however, delivered a spirited performance before going down 1-4 (9-11, 5-11, 11-4, 4-11, 5-11) to her superior-ranked opponent.
Harimoto, the home favourite, looked in control as she edged the World No. 76 Ghorpade in the first game. The Japanese continued to add to her dominance by taking the second game with a more comfortable margin.
Later, Ghorpade came from behind as she found her rhythm to clinch the game in emphatic fashion.
However, the Indian’s hope for a comeback did not last long as the Japanese restored her authority in the fourth game. Harimoto also did not break a sweat in the fifth game to close the match and advance to the next round.
The Indian World No. 76 had entered the Round of 16 with a 4-1 win over Syria’s Hend Zaza. She was also a part of the women’s doubles and mixed doubles events at the continental event.

Manush Shah fails to find rhythm
Manush’s bronze medal celebration was cut short as he struggled to show resilience, going down 4-0 (4-11, 4-11, 9-11, 10-12) to Chinese World No. 8 Lin Shidong in the men’s singles Round of 16 clash.
The match started on a poor note for Manush as he failed to get a grip on the first game, which saw him lose with relevant ease. In the second game, too, Manush failed to find the rhythm as he looked out of touch.
Manush showed resilience and better control in the third game, but the Chinese looked well composed to close it.
The fourth game was the best chance for Manush as he pushed Lin to 10-10. But the Chinese proved to be too good for the Indian, as he took the next two points and clinched the match.
The World No. 43 had entered the Round of 16 clash at the back of a 4-0 win over Iran’s Benyamin Faraji.
