Asian Games 2026 Day 7 Results: Kabaddi delivers double gold, squash books twin finals for India

India climbed to 10th in the medal tally with 30 medals after a stellar Day 7

India registered its most successful day yet at the Asian Games 2026, winning seven medals—including 2 golds—on Saturday to take its total tally to 30 and climb back into the top 10 of the medal tally.

India’s kabaddi teams starred with two blockbuster performances to successfully defend their gold in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

Squash gave India the second biggest news, with Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh making it to the finals of women’s singles and men’s singles events.

Anahat, 18, had to save two match points and overcome a 0-2 deficit to knock out the home favourite Satomi Watanabe and qualify for the finals.

Meanwhile, Abhay Singh avenged the revenge for his Indian compatriot Veer Chotrani by beating Pakistan’s Mohammad Irfan in the semis to make it to the finals. In mixed doubles, the pair of Velavan Senthilkumar & Joshana Chinappa had to settle for bronze.

India’s day on Saturday started with Sawan Barwal winning a silver medal in the men’s marathon. It’s a historic medal after 44 years, and the Indian ran his personal best time to secure the second position for India.

Late in the evening, Tajinderpal Singh Toor won the silver medal in the men’s shot put event. He was the two-time defending champion holding the Asian Games record. Iran’s Tayebise Mohammareza broke the Games record to take the gold.

There were multiple brilliant performances in the other track and field events. Prachi Choudhary won bronze in the women’s 400m finals with a brilliant run for 53.21m. Tejaswin Shankar scored big in his favourite events, long jump and high jump, to stand in the gold medal position at the end of day 1 of the Decathlon event.

The morning also saw the Indian trio of Ashi Chouksey, Tilottama Sen & Vidarsa Vinod win a silver in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event. It is the 11th medal for India from the shooting contingent.

Archers were off to a brilliant start as well, with Dhiraj Bommadevara breaking the Asian Games record to top the men’s recurve individual event.

Chikitha Taniparthi topped the qualification in the women’s compound individual event. Both, along with their two archer teammates, finished in second place in the team event in their respective categories.

Sahil Jadhav and Chikitha Taniparthi topped the compound mixed team qualification. Dhiraj Bommadevara and Kumkum Mohod finished second in the recurve mixed team qualification.

Mixed results for India in badminton and boxing. Lakshya Sen and Ayush Shetty both were knocked out in men’s singles, ending the men’s journey in badminton. PV Sindhu, Unnati Hooda, and Gayatri Gopichand/Treesa Jolly won their respective games to move into the quarter-finals.

Women’s doubles pair, Treesa–Gayatri, knocked out the World No. 3 Yuki Fukushima/Mayu Matsumoto to make it to the quarter-finals.

Jadumani Singh suffered a shocking defeat in the round of 16, but Kapil Pokhariya and Priya won their respective bouts to move into the quarterfinals. The Indian hockey team remained unbeaten through the league stage, beating hosts Japan 2-0 in the Group A match.

India showed a fight in sports like canoeing, esports, and fencing but failed to challenge the medal winners. India’s challenge in table tennis came to an end with Yashaswini Ghorpade and Manush Shah losing their pre-quarterfinals match.

• Dhiraj Bommadevara topped the men’s recurve qualification round with 698 points, setting a new Asian Games record.
• Neeraj Chauhan finished 20th with 676 points & Yashdeep Bhogal finished 25th with 665 points in the men’s recurve qualification round
• The Indian Men’s Recurve Team placed 2nd overall in the team qualification standings with a total score of 2039 points.
• Chikitha Taniparthi topped the women’s compound individual qualification round with 705 points.
• Jyothi Surekha Vennam finished 12th with 699 points & Prithika Poornima finished 20th with 695 points in the women’s compound individual qualification round
• Indian Women’s Compound Team placed 2nd overall in the team qualification standings with a total score of 2099 points.

• Indian team finished seventh with 971 points in the women’s recurve team qualification event
• Sahil Jadhav finished fifth with 709 points, while Thirumuru Ganesh Mani Ratnam and Kushal Dalal were 14th and 16th, respectively, scoring 704 points in the men’s compound individual event.
