Asian Games 2026: Updated medal tally after Day 7, September 26

India’s twin kabaddi golds push the nation into the top-10 medal standings

India delivered its best day yet at the Asian Games 2026, with the kabaddi teams sweeping both golds against Iran. Medals were also won in athletics, shooting and squash taking India’s total medal count to 30 medals, including four golds.

The women’s kabaddi team went first, grinding out a tense 37-34 win in which Sanju Devi and Pushpa Rana held firm through a physical Iranian fightback in the second half.

The men followed, trailing 18-17 at the halfway mark before Jaideep Dahiya, Sumit Sangwan, Arjun Deshwal and Aslam Inamdar took over to seal a 40-34 win and India’s ninth kabaddi gold at the Games.

At the start of the day, Sawan Barwal ended a 44-year wait for an Indian marathon medal, clinching silver in a national-record 2:11:37 behind Japan’s Ichitaka Yamashita.

Tajinderpal Singh Toor added silver in the men’s shot put, with Iran’s Mohammadreza Tayebi breaking the Games record for gold, while the women’s 50m rifle 3-positions team of Ashi Chouksey, Tilottama Sen and Vidarsa Vinod also took silver. In squash, Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar settled for mixed doubles bronze.

The spotlight for tomorrow will be firmly on India’s squash singles stars, Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh. The duo reached their singles finals, beating Japan’s Satomi Watanabe and Pakistan’s Muhammad Irfan, respectively.

Updated Medal Tally after 26th September at Asian Games 2026

China’s Chen Yuxi and Lu Wei won the women’s synchronised 10m platform gold with 347.82 points, ahead of North Korea’s Jo Jin Mi and Kim Mi Rae, while South Korea’s Kim Nahyun and Moon Nayun took bronze.

China also topped the men’s synchronised 3m springboard thanks to Wang Zongyuan and Zheng Jiuyuan, who scored 465.87, with Japan’s Ikuma Senri and Suyama Haruki taking silver and Malaysia’s Yong Rui Jie and Mohammad Nurqayyum finishing with bronze.

In women’s basketball, South Korea defeated Japan 75-70 to claim gold, while China took bronze after beating Chinese Taipei. Today also marked the final day of basketball in the Aichi-Nagoya Games.

In the Puyo Puyo Champions final, Japan’s Yuki Kurihara defeated South Korea’s Kang Dongshin 10-2 for gold. South Korea triumphed in the Fighting Games team gold after beating Japan 5-2.

In fencing, Japan edged South Korea 29-28 in the women’s foil team final, while South Korea defeated Japan 45-44 to take the men’s sabre team gold.

In shooting, China’s Han Jiayu won the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions gold with 359.0, ahead of teammate Zhang Liyuan (358.8), while South Korea’s Kim Jieun claimed bronze with 348.4.

Weightlifting saw Indonesia’s Abdullah Rahmat Erwin win the men’s 75kg gold with a 366kg total, followed by Thailand’s Wichuma Weeraporn and North Korea’s Ri Chong Song.

North Korea’s Ri Won Ju topped the 70kg category with 349kg, ahead of Japan’s Miyamoto Masanori and the Philippines’ Delos Santos Albert Ian.

With 2 gold medals added to the tally on Day 7, India have entered the top 10 once again. With several more gold-medal prospects and other podium finishes pending, the country’s aim to finish in the top-5 is well and truly alive.

At the top, the story remains the same, with China, Japan, and South Korea leading the standings. Uzbekistan surpassed Kazakhstan to claim the fourth position for now, with Thailand, Iran and Bahrain all competing for a place in the top 5.
