India have been drawn in a different pool from arch-rivals Pakistan
The Indian men’s hockey team will kick off their title defence at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. India has been clubbed in Pool A with Japan, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Indonesia.
The top-ranked side in the tournament, India, will not be grouped with arch-rivals Pakistan. Pakistan has been placed in Pool B along with Malaysia, China, Oman, Uzbekistan and Thailand.
Men’s hockey is scheduled for September 18 to October 3. The tournament will also be an important qualification pathway for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
India, the defending champions, will take on five opponents in the group stage, with each team playing the other once.
The Indian men’s hockey team will open its campaign against Indonesia, followed by a clash with Sri Lanka two days later. India then take on South Korea, Japan and Bangladesh in their remaining group games.
The top two teams of each pool will advance to the knockout and classification rounds. The semi-finals are scheduled for October 1, and the medal games are set for October 3.

The Indian women’s hockey team won the bronze medal at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou after defeating Japan 2-1 in the third-place play-off.

Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, will host the start of the hockey competitions at the 2026 Asian Games on September 18, with the men’s and women’s competitions entering the group-stage matches. The games will take place at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium in Kakamigahara, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
