Manu Bhaker’s campaign in the women’s individual 25m pistol event got off to a mixed start on Sunday, as the Asian Games record holder finished the precision stage with a score of 287, placing 16th in the individual standings at Aichi-Nagoya.
Bhaker, competing with Bib No. 1101 from Lane 18, opened her account with an 8, followed by a 10 and an inner-10 to steady herself. After the opening couple of series, she stood fifth among the first ten shooters with a score of 96.
Her rhythm dipped through the middle of the competition, with scores of 47 and 48 in the third and fourth series, before she closed out with a 96 across the final two series to finish on 287.
Bhaker remains the qualification record holder in this event, having shot a 593 at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games. By comparison, she has already dropped 13 points at the halfway stage this time, against just seven points shed across the entire qualification round when she set that record.

Rahi Sarnobat finished just ahead of her in 15th place (287 points), while Esha Singh had the best finish among the Indians, ending sixth with 290 points in the precision stage.

In the team event, India sits third after the precision stage with a combined score of 815-20x. South Korea leads the standings with 823-34x, followed by China (820-30x), while Kazakhstan is placed fourth with 821-21x.
Iran’s Haniyeh Rostamiyan topped the precision stage with a score of 291, with Uzbekistan’s Saidkulova the only other shooter to cross 290.
The rapid-fire stage, which will decide the final standings, is scheduled for September 28.
