PV Sindhu will be India’s star shuttler at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.

India are sending a 20-member badminton contingent to the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, which will take place from September 19 to October 4.

The 20 shuttlers were selected by the Badminton Association of India (BAI) in June, with the selections being based on the BWF rankings and recent performances at national and international tournaments.

The squad will be headlined by two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu, who will be joined by the highly successful doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty.

The men’s badminton contingent features 10 shuttlers. Four of them were part of the Indian team which clinched silver at the Hangzhou 2023 Games – Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth, and Arjun Ramachandran.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty, and Ayush Shetty are some of the other big names taking part in the Aichi-Nagoya Games. Most of these shuttlers were part of the Indian team that won the bronze medal at the Thomas Cup 2026 at Horsens, Denmark.

The women’s contingent is led by PV Sindhu, who reached the women’s singles quarter-finals in 2023 and would like to go all the way in this edition. Two-time Commonwealth Games medallist Gayatri Gopichand is also a part of the women’s team, along with her doubles partner, Treesa Jolly.

India will hope that the strong badminton contingent can reach the heights that they did in Hangzhou 2023. Badminton had clinched one gold, one silver, and one bronze in that edition, taking the country’s total Asian Games medal tally in the sport to 13.

This year, Indian shuttlers will compete in all five badminton disciplines at the Aichi-Nagoya Games. The players will be supported by national coach Pullela Gopichand, along with Irwansyah of Indonesia and Tan Kim Her of Malaysia.
