Lovlina Borgohain headlines India’s boxing contingent

India will field an 11-member boxing contingent at the Asian Games 2026, to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4. The squad, comprising six men and five women, includes Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain.

The 11 boxers were picked by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) after trials for this year’s Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. The squads were announced in May.

Several pugilists who qualified for the CWG, including Jaismine Lamboria and Arundhati Choudhary, did not make the Asian Games squad as their respective weight classes are not included in the Aichi-Nagoya Games.

Still, fans will hope that Indian boxers will continue their excellent form from the CWG 2026, where they clinched 10 medals. Borgohain, who bagged bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, represents India’s best chance of winning gold.

Hangzhou 2023 bronze medallist Preeti Pawar will compete in the women’s 54 kg event. CWG 2026 gold medallists Sakshi Chaudhary and Priya Ghanghas are also part of the women’s team.

Narender Berwal, a bronze medallist at Hangzhou, will compete in the men’s heavyweight division. Ankush Panghal and Sachin Siwach, fresh from winning gold at the Glasgow CWG, are also in the Indian boxing contingent.
