India’s day began with a historic gold in women’s recurve archery. Ankita Bhakat, Kumkum Mohod and Kirti Sharma defeated South Korea 5-3 in the final to win India’s first-ever Asian Games gold in the women’s recurve team event. Kumkum then added a silver alongside Dhiraj Bommadevara in the mixed recurve team event, while Dhiraj, Neeraj Chauhan and Yashdeep Bhoge also secured silver in the men’s recurve team event after losing to South Korea.

Boxing produced three gold medals for India. Lovlina Borgohain defeated China’s Bao Ziyi in the women’s 75kg final, while Parveen Hooda beat Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nien-chin in the women’s 65kg final. Ankush Panghal completed the golden sweep by defeating South Korea’s Kim Minseong in the men’s 80kg final. The three victories significantly boosted India’s gold-medal tally on Day 13.

Wrestling also delivered one of the day’s biggest moments as Sujeet Kalkal won gold in the men’s freestyle 65kg category. Sujeet produced a remarkable comeback in the final against Tajikistan’s Abdulmazhid Kudiev, recovering from a 2-9 deficit to win 10-9 and secure India’s wrestling gold.

The Indian women’s hockey team also ended a 44-year wait for Asian Games gold, defeating China 1-0 in the final. India had last won the women’s hockey title in 1982, and the historic victory also secured the team direct qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Lalremsiami scored the decisive goal in the 10th minute, while Savita Punia produced a crucial penalty-stroke save to help India hold on for the win.

India’s remaining three medals came from sailing and sepaktakraw. Nethra Kumanan won bronze in the women’s dinghy, while Harshita Tomar and Shital Verma secured bronze in the women’s skiff event. India also secured a bronze medal in men’s quadrant sepaktakraw after reaching the semifinal stage.

Apart from the medal-winning events, Indian athletes were also involved in several other sports on Friday.

In golf, Aditi Ashok, Pranavi Urs and Diksha Dagar competed in the women’s individual and team third round, while Veer Ahlawat, Saptak Talwar and Yuvraj Sandhu featured in the men’s competition. After Day 3, Pranavi Urs leads the women’s individual golf event, three shots clear of Singapore’s Shannon Tan, while India are second in the women’s team standings behind China heading into the final round.

India also competed in women’s rugby sevens, track cycling, canoe slalom, taekwondo and volleyball. The men’s volleyball team defeated South Korea 3-1 in its classification match.

The 16 gold medals have come from a broad range of disciplines, including archery, athletics, boxing, cricket, hockey, kabaddi, shooting, and wrestling. India’s medal count has now crossed the 75-mark with one day of competition remaining.

What to expect from the Indian contingent on 3rd October?

October 3 is the final day of the Asian Games 2026, with India still having medal opportunities across archery, cricket, hockey, wrestling, golf, rugby sevens, sailing and taekwondo.

Archery will open India’s final day medal campaign. Kumkum Mohod will compete in the women’s individual recurve quarterfinal against South Korea’s Kang Chaeyoung. The men’s individual recurve quarterfinals will feature Dhiraj Bommadevara against Uzbekistan’s Amirkhon Sadikov and Neeraj Chauhan against Bhutan’s Lam Dorji.

Wrestling will have five Indian competitors in action. Aman Sehrawat will compete in men’s freestyle 57kg, Sagar Jaglan in 74kg and Deepak Punia in 97kg. In the women’s events, Antim Panghal will compete in 53kg and Manisha Bhanwala in 57kg.

The hockey final carries importance beyond the Asian Games medal. The winner of the men’s tournament will earn direct qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. India have already secured at least a medal by reaching the final, but a victory over Malaysia would provide the direct Olympic quota and allow the defending champions to retain their Asian Games title.

India’s women’s rugby sevens team will also play its knockout and classification matches on the final day after completing its pool campaign. Sailing will continue with Indian participation across the men’s dinghy, men’s skiff, women’s dinghy, women’s skiff and women’s windsurfing events.

Taekwondo will also see Indian participation, with Kashish Malik in the women’s 57kg category and Jyoti Yadav in the women’s +67kg category scheduled to compete on the final day.

Golf will conclude with its final rounds in both men’s and women’s individual and team competitions.

With 76 medals already secured, India will enter the final day with cricket, archery, wrestling and men’s hockey among the biggest remaining medal opportunities. The men’s hockey final, in particular, could decide not only another Asian Games gold but also India’s direct qualification pathway to the LA 2028 Olympic Games, bringing the curtain down on what has been a highly productive campaign in Aichi-Nagoya.
