India have sent seven-member Wushu squad
India have named a seven-member wushu squad for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, and the group will compete across both Sanda and Taolu disciplines. The contingent includes three men and four women, giving the country representation in combat as well as routine-based events.
Aryan and Vikrant Baliyan are the two athletes picked for Sanda, the combat discipline of wushu. Aryan competes in the men’s 56kg category, while Vikrant Baliyan moves up to the men’s 75kg division after fighting at 65kg in Hangzhou 2022, where he could not get past the opening stages.
On the women’s side, Aparna will fight in the 52kg category and Divyanshi in the 60kg category, so India has entries in two separate women’s weight classes this time.
The Taolu side of the squad is made up of Suraj Singh Mayanglambam, Nyeman Wangsu and Langlentombi Devi Hanjabam.
Suraj competes in men’s Changquan, an event he also took part in at Hangzhou, where he finished fifth.
Nyeman Wangsu takes the women’s Changquan slot, and Langlentombi Devi Hanjabam will compete in the combined Nanquan and Nandao category, which asks an athlete to be sharp in an empty-hand routine and a broadsword routine on the same day.

At Hangzhou 2022, India’s best wushu result came from Naorem Roshibina Devi, who took silver in the women’s 60kg Sanda event. That medal is still the benchmark the current squad will be measured against. This time, four of the seven picks are women, and the team is spread more evenly across weight categories and disciplines instead of leaning on one or two names.
Sanda bouts are decided through direct elimination, so a single bad round can end an athlete’s Games. Taolu, on the other hand, works on a scoring system judged on execution, difficulty, balance, speed and power, which means consistency across the routine matters more than one big moment.
China remains the dominant force in wushu at Asian level, and other East and Southeast Asian nations are also expected to field strong squads, so qualifying out of the early rounds will not be easy for any of India’s seven athletes.
Even so, having entries in five separate categories gives India more than one route to a medal. If the Sanda fighters can manage pressure in knockout bouts, and the Taolu athletes can hold their form under judges’ scoring, India’s wushu team at Aichi-Nagoya 2026 has a genuine chance to improve on its Hangzhou showing.
