Asian Games 2026: Updated medal tally after Day 12, October 1
China is closing in on the 300-mark on the medal tally
Wrestling, archery and sailing added to India’s medal tally on Day 12 of the Asian Games 2026, but the country fell short of gold on multiple occasions.
Nitesh Siwach won silver in the men’s 97kg Greco-Roman final, losing 4-0 to Japan’s Yuri Nakazato.
In sailing, Prince Kurisinkal and Manu Francis took silver in the men’s skiff, finishing with 23 points from nine races after winning one and placing second in three others.
Both squash teams settled for bronze after semi-final defeats. The women’s team lost 1-2 to Hong Kong, with Anahat Singh winning her first two games before Sin Yuk Chan fought back to win, while the men lost 1-2 to Malaysia, with Abhay Singh again beaten by individual-event champion Eain Yow Ng.

Archery had a quieter day after Wednesday’s sweep. Ganesh Thirumuru won bronze in the men’s individual compound after a semi-final loss to South Korea’s Kim Jhongo .
The men’s hockey team scored a late winner to prevent an upset against Pakistan, thereby reaching the final, and the men’s cricket team thrashed Sri Lanka by 124 runs to also make the finals.
Judo, canoe slalom, volleyball and rugby sevens all ended in defeat for India’s remaining contenders, while the golf teams sat third (women) and fifth (men) after the second round.

Archery saw South Korea’s Kim Jongho claim the men’s compound individual title, defeating Chinese Taipei’s Chang Cheng-Wei. Indonesia’s Ashrifah Nurisa Dian made history by winning the women’s event against Philippines’ Cojuangco Amaya Amparo.
In canoe slalom, China’s Zhang Zhicheng topped the men’s canoe single, while Japan’s Ito Kurumi won gold in the women’s kayak single.
The United Arab Emirates secured both jiu-jitsu titles with Balqees Abdulla winning the women’s -48kg final, and Ahmed Andez claiming the men’s -69kg title. Saudi Arabia finished first in equestrian jumping team, ahead of the United Arab Emirates and Japan.

In cycling track, Japan’s Kaiya Ota won the men’s sprint, while Malaysia’s Mohd Azizulhasni Awang took bronze. Japan also claimed the women’s madison title, ahead of Hong Kong and China, while China’s Junjie Wu topped the men’s omnium.
Japan’s Rin Maeda won the women’s -70kg judo title, while South Korea’s Mimi Hu and Japan’s Narumi Tanioka claimed gold in the women’s -57kg and -63kg categories, respectively. Japan’s Kazbek Naguchev won the men’s -73kg title, and Sota Fujiwara took the men’s -81kg gold.
In shooting, South Korea’s Gunhyeok Lee won the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol individual event, while South Korea also claimed the team title ahead of China and Indonesia.
China’s Shoung Chu claimed the men’s speed climbing title, ahead of Iran’s Reza Ali Pour Shenazandi Fard and Kazakhstan’s Damir Toktarov. South Korea’s Haeun Jung defeated Philippines’ Juliana Mykhail Candelaria in the taekwondo women’s individual poomsae final.

Wrestling gold medals went to Japan’s Nonoka Ozaki in women’s 62kg, Kyrgyzstan’s Zholoman Sharshenbekov in men’s Greco-Roman 60kg, and Iran’s Alireza Abdevali in men’s Greco-Roman 77kg.
China continued to lead the medal standings, extending its tally to 288 medals, including 154 gold, 71 silver and 63 bronze. Japan surpassed the 200-medal mark, while Republic of Korea retained third place with 113 medals.
Uzbekistan continued to occupy fourth position with 56 medals, followed by Iran and Thailand in fifth and sixth places respectively.
India remained eighth in the standings with 64 medals, comprising 10 gold, 22 silver and 32 bronze. The Indian contingent added five medals to its tally, including two silver and three bronze, while maintaining its position ahead of Kazakhstan.
The standings are expected to change on Friday, with several boxing and wrestling events lined up.
