Sailing, wrestling, archery and squash brought medals on a mixed day for India

Day 12 of the Asian Games 2026 turned out to be a mixed day for India. India won a silver in the men’s skiff event in sailing with Prince Noble and Manu Francis doing the job. The event had nine races, and the Indian pair finished with 23 points to get to silver.

Out of those nine races, the duo won race 3 and finished second in races 1, 5, and 9, which was good enough for silver.

Another man, who had to settle for silver, is Nitesh Siwach in the men’s 97kg Greco-roman wrestling finals. It was tough against the Japanese wrestler Yuri Nakazato.

It was a historic win, as India has won a medal in the Greco-Roman category after 64 years. In the women’s 62kg category, Mansi lost a bronze medal in the final seconds of the bout. The match was at 2-2, but in the last 10 seconds, Mongolia’s Altjin Togtokh secured two points to take the bronze.

The hockey team produced a thrilling performance to beat Pakistan in the final minute in the semifinals. India started well scoring in the first two quarters. Pakistan came back strongly as they dominated the proceedings. In the final minute, Abhishek scored a fantastic goal to book a place in the finals.

The women’s squash team had to settle for a bronze after losing to Hong Kong. Anahat Singh won the first two games, but her opponent, Sin Yuk Chan, came from behind to win the match. While Tanvi Khanna brought one back for India, Joshana Chinappa couldn’t win the decider set as India lost the semis, and by virtue of making it to the last four, India was awarded the bronze medals.

The Indian men’s squash team also had to contend with a bronze medal as they lost the semifinals against Malaysia 2-1. Abhay Singh once again lost to Eain Yow Ng, who beat him in the individual finals. Veer Chotrani got one back for India, but Velavan Senthilkumar couldn’t repeat it, as they ended their journey with bronze.

In Sepaktakraw, the men’s quadrant team topped their group as they remained unbeaten through the group stage. They will play the semifinal, and the men’s team would want to win the game to become the first Indian team to make it to the finals of any Sepaktakraw event in the Asian Games.

Chikitha Taniparthi, who won two gold medals in team events in compound archery on Wednesday, suffered a shocking defeat in the individual event. In the men’s event, Ganesh Mani Ratnam won the bronze medal. Having won all five gold medals in compound archery in Hangzhou, the Archers will be disappointed not to have repeated in Aichi-Nagoya.

Anish finished 5th in the men’s 25m pistol event, another shooting event, where India has underperformed. Sports like Judo and canoe slalom saw India put up a brave fight but couldn’t convert it into medals. Disappointments in volleyball and rugby sevens, as India lost their games.

In golf, the women’s team stands at third place and the men’s team at fifth place at the end of day 2. With still two more days of action left, the fans would be hoping for a medal for India.
