Asian Games 2026 September 18 Results: Cricket, Teqball steps closer to medal finish
Teqball athlete Quimcy Dsouza is one win away from medals in two different events.
Day 2 in Aichi-Nagoya, on Friday, September 18, gave India a bit of everything—a comfortable win in women’s cricket, a quarter-final exit in men’s soft tennis, and a real medal chance in teqball. The opening ceremony of the Asian Games 2026 is tomorrow.
India’s women’s cricketers began their gold medal defence with an eight-wicket win over hosts Japan in the quarter-final at Korogi Sports Park, Nisshin.
After winning the toss and bowling first, India bowled Japan out for 57, with the hosts using all but one ball of their 20 overs.

Left-arm spinner Shree Charani took 4/10, her best figures in T20s, including openers Haruna Iwasaki and captain Mai Yanagida off successive balls in the seventh over. Shafali Verma added 2/13 with her off-spin.
Then she finished the job with the bat, hitting an unbeaten 40 off 15 balls as India chased the total down in five overs. Richa Ghosh chipped in with 12 off six. India play Bangladesh in Sunday’s semi-final, while Pakistan face Sri Lanka in the other.
In men’s soft tennis, India’s team of Jay Meena, Yogesh Choudhary, Aryan Thakur, Aniket Patil and Om Yadav went out in the quarter-finals, losing 0-2 to Indonesia.
They’d reached the last eight with group C wins over Mongolia and Lao, after a loss to Chinese Taipei. Meena and Choudhary won just two games against Tio Hutauruk and Fernando Sanger in the opening doubles rubber.
Thakur then lost to Bagus Pradewa in singles, which settled the tie. The third match was cancelled, and no reason was given.
Teqball, making its Asian Games debut, gave India the day’s best news. On her Asian Games debut, 24-year-old Quimcy Joaquim Dsouza beat top seed Yuina Sakamoto of Japan 2-1 (10-12, 12-11, 13-11) in a 43-minute Group A match at the Nagoya City Higashi Sports Center.
She then beat Cambodia’s Koemyean DY 2-0 in 24 minutes to top the group, which earned her a bye past the quarter-finals.
She plays Indonesia’s Sumaya in Saturday’s semi-final. A win guarantees India’s first teqball medal at the Games, and even a loss leaves her a bronze-medal match on Sunday.

The mixed doubles was a rougher ride. Quimcy and Mohammed Anas Imran Beg opened with a win, dropped three of their next four group matches, then beat Salman Alebraheem and Hessah Alfailakawi to reach the quarter-finals.
There they lost to Vietnam’s Hoang Minh Tan Nguyen and Gia Nghi Trinh. They beat the Philippines duo a second time in the repechage, so they’ll be playing for a podium finish on Sunday.

Sunday, September 20, in the semi-final against Bangladesh. Pakistan meet Sri Lanka in the other semi. The final and third-place playoff are on Tuesday, September 22.
