Volleyball at Asian Games 2026: Full schedule, results, & live streaming details
Volleyball is one of the core sports in the Asian Games’ history.
The Asian Games 2026 is scheduled to take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Although the official competition will start on September 19, preliminary rounds of several sports will start earlier, with volleyball among the disciplines starting ahead of the opening date.
A regular fixture at the Asian Games, volleyball also holds a deep-rooted connection with Japan, making it one of the notable sports to watch as the Aichi-Nagoya edition approaches. The sport was first included in the Asian Games in the 1958 edition, which was hosted in Tokyo. Seeing its success, the sport was included in the Olympics for the first time in 1964, again hosted by Japan.
The hosts have enjoyed a dominant record in volleyball at the Asian Games, emerging as the most successful nation in the sport with 14 gold medals across the men’s and women’s competitions.
The Indian men’s team won bronze in the first-ever edition when Volleyball was introduced in 1958. They improved upon this by winning a silver in the next edition and secured another bronze in 1986. Although India’s performance has not been up to the mark in this century, they found success in the last few years.
India finished on the podium for the first time in the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Men’s Cup earlier this year and have beaten a few top sides. It will be a tough ask for the team in this continental event, but they will enter the Games with high confidence, thanks to their encouraging form.
The men’s event will have 16 nations split into four groups of four each, while the Women’s event will have 14 nations, with two groups of four and two groups of three. India’s women’s team have not qualified for the event, and the men’s team will hope for a strong finish in Aichi-Nagoya.
