This event will mark the retirement of two-time Olympics champion Barbora Spotakova.
The Ostrava Golden Spike 2023 Athletics Meet, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event, is all set to commence on June 27, 2023, at the Městský Stadion in Ostrava, Czech Republic. The athletics event is headlined by reigning Olympic, World Champion and world record-holder pole vaulter Armand Duplantis of Sweden.
Apart from Duplantis, shot put world record holder Ryan Crouser, the 3000m steeplechase world record holder in Lamecha Girma from Ethiopia, and discus world champion Kristjan Čeh of Slovenia are a few prominent names who are in exceptional form and will showcase their talent at the Municipal Stadium in Czech.
Meanwhile, the women's 100m hurdles will be one of the most anticipated races as the reigning Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn will be up against Nigeria's Tobi Amusan who owns the world record in the discipline. As usual, the men's 100m event is packed with top competitors, including the 200m gold medalist from Canada Andre De Grasse, an in-form Akani Simbine from South Africa, Canada's reigning world champion in the relay race Jerome Blake, and the European Indoor Championships 2022 gold medalist Samuele Ceccarelli 10.13 from Italy.
Tokyo Olympics 2020 silver medalist and World Lead Jakub Vadlejch will be leading the home side in the men's javelin throw. However, the one name which has caught the attention of many is none other than Barbora Špotáková. The two-time Olympics and three-time world champion Špotáková will be featuring in the women's javelin throw, an event in which she also holds the world record.
However, this is going to be her farewell game in front of the home crowd. She had announced her retirement on September 9, 2022, a few weeks after winning the bronze at the European Athletics Championships 2022.
