As many as four Indian javelin throwers made the cut for the event, but Rohit Yadav is out with injury.

The final list of athletes those who have made the cut for World Athletics Championships 2023 have been released by Athletics Federation of India (AFI) on July 8th, Tuesday. 28 athletes – including the relay team have cleared the qualification criteria for the World scheduled to be held in Budapest, Hungary from August 19 to 27.

Reigning Olympics gold medalist Neeraj Chopra will spearhead the Indian contingent- having qualified last year after winning the Diamond League. A total of four Indian Javelin throwers made the cut but unfortunately Rohit Yadav had to undergo a surgery which will force him to miss the competition and the entire season as well.

The participation numbers have steadily increased this year, up from 23 in Eugene. Ram Baboo was the first Indian athlete to qualify for the Championships earlier in May via the world rankings route. However, few Indians have prioritized Asian Games over World Championships with a few suffering from minor injuries.

National Record holder in Long Jump Tejaswin Shankar has skipped the World Championships and has set his focus for Asian Games where he will be participating in decathlon. Tajinder Pal Singh Toor will miss the competition due to a groin injury.

Neeraj Chopra was the lone medalist in the previous edition and overall India has won only two medals at the World’s.
