India has so far won two medals in the history of the competition.
A 27-member Indian contingent is all set to participate in the prestigious World Athletics Championships 2023 scheduled to take place from August 19 to 27 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Reigning Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra is set to spearhead the Indian squad which comprises of several top athletes who have earlier made a mark at the World level.
So far in the history of World Championships, India has won only two medals – Anju Bobby George (bronze) and Neeraj Chopra (silver). Also the current edition feature a record number of Indian participation with Shaili Singh, 19, being the youngest athlete from the Indian contingent and close to 15 athletes will be making their debut at the Worlds.
Long Jump is an event where India has high chances to medal apart from the obvious Javelin Throw. The world lead jump currently stands in the name of Jeswin Aldrin (8.42m) which he recorded in March at the Indian Jumps Open.
This is will be the 22-year-old’s second World Championship having had a decent outing in the last edition. His compatriot Murali Sreeshankar is fresh from his exploits at the Asian Championships where he breached the Olympic qualification mark and in the process also finished second.
