Neeraj Chopra to compete in Zurich Diamond League after becoming World champion.

India’s superstar Neeraj Chopra will be seen back in action in the men’s javelin throw fresh after making history as the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships. The Olympic champion will face off against former world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada and Jakub Vadlejch in Zurich Diamond League 2023.

Neeraj Chopra won World Athletics Championships Gold in Budapest with a best effort of 88.17m. Pakistani rival Arshad Nadeem finished second with 87.89m in the world championships and will be absent from the Zurich diamond league.

Neeraj is in the third spot in men’s javelin Diamond League points table. He has 16 points with wins in Doha and Lausanne.

Vadlejch is at the top spot with 21 points while Germany’s Julian Weber is at the second spot with 19 points. The top six in field events will qualify for the final at the end of the 14 series. While Neeraj is at the third spot in men’s javelin Diamond League points table.

Murali Sreeshankar, who is set to participate in the diamond league in Zurich, will be aiming to overcome his recent disappointment after failing to qualify for the final of the World Championships. It was an ordinary effort from Sreeshankar at the world championship in Budapest, managing just 7.74m, 7.66m, and 6.60m in his series.

The Commonwealth Games silver medalist Sreeshankar finished seventh in the World Athletics Championships final in 2022 and was expected to do well in Budapest, but the youngster must have been left disappointed with his efforts.

Sreeshankar’s counterpart Jeswin Aldrin, who qualified for the final in Budapest, is not part of the start list in the Zurich Diamond League. Sreeshankar, who finished third in Paris to become only the second Indian to finish on the podium, is on the third spot in men’s long jump standings.
