At the FISU World University Games 2023 hosted in Chengdu, China, Jyothi Yarraji secured a commendable bronze medal in the women’s 100m hurdles by breaking her own national record with a stunning time of 12.78 seconds in the finals on August 4. She narrowly missed the 2024 Paris Olympics qualification mark of 12.77 seconds by a meagre 0.01 seconds. This achievement marked a significant improvement from her previous record of 12.82 seconds set at the 2022 National Open Athletics Championships in Bengaluru, India.
Kurpfalz Gala 2023 Athletics Meet (12.84 seconds)
The 23-year-old claimed victory and secured a gold medal at the Kurpfalz Gala 2023 held at Sepp-Herberger-Stadion in Weinheim, Germany, in May. She won the 100m hurdles event with a splendid time of 12.84 seconds with a modest wind assistance of +1.0. She beat the likes of Nadine Hildebrand of Germany and Elvira Herman of Belarus, who finished second and third respectively.
26th National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships (12.89 seconds)
Jyothi Yarraji secured the gold medal in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 26th National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships held at Birsa Munda Football Stadium in Morabadi, Ranchi, India, in May. The Andhra Pradesh native set a meet record with a dazzling time of 12.89 seconds. Jyothi’s performance not only earned her the top spot on the podium but also surpassed the qualifying standard for the Asian Athletics Championships, set at 13.63 seconds by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).

Competing in the women’s 100m hurdles final, Yarraji faced adversity as officials initially sought to disqualify her and Chinese athlete Wu Yanni due to a false start. Despite finishing the race third with a time of 12.91, behind the two Chinese runners, the situation took a dramatic turn.
In response to protests from Indian officials present at the venue, the organizers reconsidered their decision and disqualified Wu Yanni, upgrading Jyothi’s bronze medal to a well-deserved silver.

Jyothi Yarraji continued her stellar performance in the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships 2023, held at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, India, in June.
