Gulveer Singh became the third Indian to clinch the 5000m title at the Asian Championships.

Gulveer Singh continued his merry way at Asian Athletics Championships 2025 in Gumi, South Korea, on Friday.

The 26-year-old, who earlier won India’s first gold of the championships in the 10,000m, has completed yet another milestone in his competing engagement after he won the men’s 5000m, clocking 13:24.78, which broke the nine-year-old Championship Record of 13:34.47 that was set by Qatar’s Mohamed Al-Garni in 2015.

With the win, Gulveer also becomes just the third Indian to clinch the 5000m title at the Asian Championships, joining Gopal Saini (1981) and G. Lakshmanan (2017).

His feat in Gumi comes only two years after he took bronze in the same event in Bangkok and is a dramatic step forward.

The Uttar Pradesh native has been on a blazing rush in 2025. In March, he ran a stunning 27:00.22 in the 10,000 at The Ten competition in the U.S, to set a new national benchmark.
