Fans will have to wait longer for the Neeraj Chopra vs Arshad Nadeem clash.

The Diamond League returns for the 12th meet of the 2025 season in Silesia, Poland, on August 16, where athletes will compete for qualification into the final in Zurich later this month.

However, the Silesia Diamond League 2025 will be missing several high-profile athletes due to injuries, recovery, and personal decisions. Fans were particularly looking forward to marquee matchups, but the absence of some top contenders has reshaped expectations for the meet.

From sprint champions to javelin throwers, the absence of certain stars will be felt in the line-up. Here we take a look at five athletes who will miss the Silesia Diamond League 2025:

Athletes will miss the Silesia Diamond League 2025-

Djamel Sedjati

Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medalist in the 800m, Djamel Sedjati, will skip the event. He was likely to compete in Poland, but Sedjati has instead chosen to prioritize preparations for the Diamond League final in Brussels next month. Fans will now have to wait until September to see him return to top-level action.

While fans would miss some marquee encounters, the absence of these elite stars opens the door for others to step up and seize the spotlight in the race to qualify for the Zurich final.

Norwegian middle-distance star Jakob Ingebrigtsen will miss both the Silesia and Brussels Diamond League meets as he continues to recover from an Achilles injury.

The Olympic 5,000m gold medalist was expected to compete in the 1,500m in both meetings, with his last appearance being at the World Indoor Championships in March, where he won double gold in the 1,500m and 3,000m.

His withdrawal removes one of the strongest contenders from the middle-distance races, leaving the field more open for other athletes to collect valuable points towards the Zurich final.

Julien Alfred

Saint Lucia’s Olympic 100m champion, Julien Alfred, will also miss the Silesia Diamond League, along with the Lausanne and Brussels meets. Alfred was scheduled to compete in the 100m in Silesia but has decided to restructure her season to focus on preparations for upcoming events.

Dismissing reports of injury, Alfred clarified that she remains fully fit and is concentrating on performance improvements. Ranked second in the world this year in 100m with a personal best of 10.75 seconds, Alfred’s absence is a blow to sprint fans who were eager to see her in action.

Pakistan’s top javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem, will also miss the Silesia Diamond League. He is currently rehabilitating from surgery on his right calf and has been sidelined from competing in Poland. Nadeem’s absence continues his cautious recovery process following his gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

His coach confirmed that Nadeem would not be listed in the men’s javelin throw entries, denying fans the highly anticipated showdown between him and Neeraj Chopra.

Chopra’s absence, not yet fully explained, comes despite a strong start to his season with a win at the Potch Invitational and a national-record 90.23m throw at the Doha Diamond League. Fans eager to watch the two-time Olympic medalist will be disappointed, with Chopra’s absence creating a major void in the line-up.
