South Asian Athletics Championships 2025: India finish with 50+ medals to top overall tally

20 of India’s 58 medals came in gold at the event.
India stamped their domination at the South Asian Athletics Championships 2025 to top the medal tally and secure a top-place finish after a superb final day on Sunday. Continuing their dominance from the first two days, India added 26 medals to their tally on Day 3 to end the competition with a total haul of 58 medals.
Sri Lanka ended second on the tally with 40 medals, which included 16 gold, 14 silver and 10 bronzes. India clinched a total of 20 gold medals, as many silvers and 18 bronzes at the Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
On Day 3, India’s Ruchit Mori won the gold medal and broke the 17-year-old meet record of 50.72s in the men’s 400m hurdles event with his timing of 50.10s. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Kuda Liyanage Ayoma also did well to finish with a silver medal with a timing of 50.29s.
Sandeep Singh continued his strong run in the men’s 200m event with his timing of 21.23s. He had earlier won the gold medal at the National Open Athletics Championships, going sub-21 for the first time in his career.

The Indian women’s 4x400m relay team bettered the meet record with their timing of 3:34.70, winning the gold medal. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s men’s 4x400m relay team created a new meet record with his timing of 3:05.12 to win the gold medal.
