Neeraj Chopra finishes second behind Julian Weber at Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025 athletics meet

Neeraj Chopra was the only Indian competing at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025.

Neeraj Chopra finished second in the men’s javelin throw event at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025. He registered a best throw of 84.14m, which he achieved in his final attempt. For the second time in a week, Chopra came second to Julian Weber, who topped with a best attempt of 86.12m. Meanwhile, Anderson Peters completed the podium after throwing 83.24m—to repeat to podium from Doha last Friday.

Chopra, who like Weber was coming off a first-ever 90m career throw, started with a foul attempt and then followed it up with a modest 81.28m in his second throw.

The two-time Olympic medalist registered a couple of foul throws in his next two attempts before throwing 81.80m. He was third after fifth round of throws and finally managed to throw the spear 84.14m to pip Anderson and finish in the second position. His second-place finish also extended Chopra’s run of finishing in the top two to 22 consecutive competitions.

Chopra cleared the 90m mark one week ago when he took the field in the Doha Diamond League 2025. He threw 90.23m to better his National Record and ended his long wait to enter the elusive 90m club.

Weber finished first in the competition with a best throw of 86.12m, which came off his second attempt. The German athlete registered 80m+ throws on all six attempts. Meanwhile, Grenada’s Anderson Peters secured third position with a best throw of 83.24m. He held the second position for a long time before Neeraj Chopra overtook him.

Poland’s National Record holder, Marcin Krukowski, finished fifth in the final standings with a disappointing 79.47m as his best throw. His countryman Cyprian Mrzygłód secured fourth position with a throw of 80.49m.
