Asian Games 2026: Yash Vir Singh & Rohit Yadav secure double podium finish for India in men’s javelin throw
The gold medal went to Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage
India secured a historic double podium finish in the men’s javelin throw event at the Asian Games 2026 on Monday, September 28.
Yash Vir Singh and Rohit Yadav clinched silver and bronze, respectively, securing two podium finishes for India at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletics Stadium.
Yash Vir finished second with a personal-best throw of 85.72m in his sixth and final attempt. Rohit finished third by clearing 84.35m in his third attempt. The gold medal went to Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage, who had a best effort of 88.55m.

India’s athletics contingent faced a handicap with the injury-enforced absence of Neeraj Chopra, who had won gold at the Hangzhou 2022 Games. In Neeraj’s absence, Yash Vir and Rohit stepped up to secure two javelin throw medals for India.
Yash Vir, fresh from winning a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026, opened his Aichi-Nagoya Games campaign with 83.56m. He then recorded 82.99m and 82.42m in his next two attempts.
The 24-year-old then improved his standing by registering 84.31m and 85.41m with his fourth and fifth efforts, respectively. He then registered his personal best of 85.72m, confirming his place on the podium.

Rohit had a slow start to the final, opening with 77.25m. He then improved it to 82.40m with his second effort before briefly going to the top of the standings with an 84.35m throw. He failed to improve upon this mark in his final three throws.
Rumesh Pathirage overtook the Indian pair in the standings with a monstrous 88.33m throw on his fourth effort. The Sri Lankan star then improved his mark with an 88.55m throw on his final attempt. This capped off a successful season for Pathirage, who also won gold at the CWG 2026.
The reigning Olympic champion, Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, finished fourth with a season-best effort of 80.29m.
