Jyothi Yarraji suffered the ACL injury during training on Wednesday last week.

Indian hurdler Jyothi Yarraji has undergone successful surgery for an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear on her right knee. The 25-year-old took to Instagram and shared the update about her successful surgery.

In the social media post, she also thanked the Athletics Federation of India, the Sports Authority of India, and more. The national record holder in women’s 100m hurdles also promised that she will make a stronger return on the track soon.

She wrote in the caption, “Hello everyone, I’m happy to share that this Friday, I successfully underwent a successful surgery to repair an ACL tear on my right knee with Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala. The past few weeks have been tough for me, as this injury has stopped me from doing what I love the most.”

She further wrote, “However, with the support of my family, friends, the teams at TOPS, @media.iccsai, @afiindia_official and @rfyouthsports @coachjameshillier and all of you, I am taking this in my stride and hoping to be back very soon. The journey to a stronger version of me starts now and I’m going to put in my 100% and more to be back on track soon.”

Jyothi Yarraji, who gave promising performances throughout the 2025 season, suffered a significant setback at a critical juncture. She sustained the injury during training on Wednesday last week.

The Asian champion was looking forward to making her second World Athletics Championships appearance, but her season seems to have come to a premature end due to an ACL injury. The Indian hurdler is likely to miss the World Championships in Tokyo, scheduled to take place in September.

Also, with the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games set to take place next year, she would have to make a swift recovery to compete in the competitions. Yarraji would be India’s top hope for a medal in the hurdles event at both tournaments.

However, the 25-year-old has suffered multiple injuries in the last couple of years. She suffered a hip flexor injury during training in Finland after the Paris Olympics last year. The national record holder also sustained a hamstring injury earlier this year in April.

As a result, Jyothi is expected to serve an extended rehabilitation period to recover from the latest injury setback. Nevertheless, the knee injury turned out to be a huge blow to Jyothi Yarraji’s promising 2025 season.

What is an ACL tear?

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a strong band of tissue that connects your thighbone (femur) to your shinbone (tibia)m stabilizing the knee joint and aiding in movements and rotation.

ACL injuries occur during sudden stops or change in direction or awkward landings and are common in high-impact sports.

Depending on the injury, a partial tear or complete tear, it may take weeks to month or a year to fully recover.

When did Jyothi Yarraji suffer the ACL injury?

Jyothi suffered the injury during a training session in the first week of July. She had shared on her Instagram story about the injury, informing her followers and fans.

When will Jyothi Yarraji return from injury?

On July 13, Jyothi informed on social media that she had successfully undergone surgery on her knee and will soon start her process to recovery.

What was the last competition that Jyothi Yarraji competed in?

She last competed at the Taiwan Athletics Open 2025 in June, where she clinched gold in women’s 100m hurdles with a timing of 12.99s.
