Asian Games 2026: Murali Sreeshankar retains silver in men’s long jump, David Solomon Patturaj finishes seventh

Sreeshankar’s 8.07m effort secured silver despite an injury in the final
Murali Sreeshankar continued his impressive return from injury by winning silver in the men’s long jump at the Asian Games 2026 on Monday. The Indian produced a best effort of 8.07m to finish second, while David Solomon Patturaj finished seventh with 7.70m.
China’s Shi Yuhao won gold with a season-best 8.17m, while Uzbekistan’s Anvar Anvarov took bronze with 8.06m. Sreeshankar’s silver means he has now finished runner-up in the event at two successive editions of the Asian Games.

Sreeshankar produces 8.07m to win silver

Sreeshankar began the final with a 7.66m jump before producing his best effort of 8.07m in his second attempt. He then recorded 7.56m in his third attempt before fouling his fourth.
His 8.07m effort put him firmly in the silver-medal position, just 10cm behind China’s Shi Yuhao, who won gold with a season-best 8.17m. Uzbekistan’s Anvar Anvarov finished third with 8.06m, just one centimetre behind the Indian.
Sreeshankar’s 8.07m also marked his second consecutive Asian Games silver medal, following his 8.19m effort at the 2023 Hangzhou Games.
Injury forces Sreeshankar to stop after fourth attempt
Sreeshankar picked up an injury after his fourth attempt and could not continue with his final two jumps. However, his 8.07m mark was enough to secure the silver medal.
Despite the setback, he managed to finish on the podium in his return to the Asian Games after missing the Paris Olympics due to injury.

Patturaj finishes seventh
David Solomon Patturaj, who qualified for the final with a 7.62m effort, finished seventh with 7.70m.
Patturaj opened with 7.54m before improving to 7.70m in his second attempt. He then recorded 7.57m in his third attempt and could not better his mark in the remaining rounds.
Sreeshankar’s silver and Patturaj’s seventh-place finish gave India two athletes inside the top eight of the men’s long jump final, with Sreeshankar adding another Asian Games medal to his growing list of international achievements.
