Julian Weber breached the 90m mark twice and was the only one to do so.

Neeraj Chopra finished as the runner-up in men’s javelin throw at the Diamond League Final 2025, with a best attempt of 85.01m. Germany’s Julian Weber clinched the title with a career-best and World Lead throw of 91.51m while Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott took bronze after registering best throw of 84.95m.

Chopra, who won the title in 2022 and ended runner-up in 2023 & 2024, began with a modest 84.35m throw in his first attempt and followed it with an 82.00m throw on his second.

The two-time Olympic medalist looked far from his best as his next three throws ended up being fouls. With one final round of throws remaining, Chopra was placed third. He had not finished outside the top two in any event since June 2021 at the Kuortane Games in Finland.

As it turns out that will remain the last event where he came third as Chopra hurled his javelin to a massive 85.01m distance in his final throw to jump to second place and finish with a silver medal—his third consecutive runner-up in Diamond League Finals.

Prior to the Diamond League Final 2025, Neeraj Chopra had stated that he is “not at a good level technically.” But his last-ditch attempt takes Chopra’s streak of finishing inside the top two to 26 consecutive competitions.

Meanwhile, a total of seven athletes took the field on Thursday at the Letzigrund Stadium in Zurich, Switzerland, competing in the men’s javelin throw event at the Diamond League Final 2025.

Weber was off to a flying start with a humongous throw of 91.37m, registering his personal best. The German athlete bettered his efforts with a 91.51m throw in his second attempt.

Despite a foul throw in his third attempt, Julian registered throws of 83.66m, 86.45m, and 88.66m in his last three attempts, respectively. He has breached the 91m mark thrice this season and looks to be in fine touch ahead of the World Athletics Championships next month.

Walcott’s best throw came off his very first attempt on Thursday, enough to land him a third-place finish. Anderson Peters (82.06m), Julius Yego (82.01m), and Andrian Mardare (81.81m) finished fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively.

Simon Wieland competed in the event, representing hosts Switzerland. He registered his personal best throw of 81.29m—the first time ever the Swiss athlete has thrown over 80m. His previous PB was 79.44m.
