Neeraj Chopra wins javelin gold with season-best throw at Ostrava Golden Spike 2025.
Neeraj Chopra finished atop the standings in the men’s javelin throw event at Ostrava Golden Spike 2025, which took place at the Městský Stadion in Ostrava-Vítkovice, Czech Republic, on Tuesday, June 24. The Indian javelin throw secured the top spot with a best effort of 85.29m.
Chopra began the event with a foul throw and followed it up with an 83.45m throw in his second attempt. He registered a best throw of 85.29m in this third attempt and recorded throws of 82.17m and 81.01m in his fourth and fifth attempts, respectively. The Olympic champion ended his campaign in Ostrava with a foul throw.
The Ostrava Golden Spike 2025 was Neeraj Chopra’s fifth event this season. He previously competed in the Potch Invitational Meet (April 16), Doha Diamond League (May 16), Janusz Kusocinski Memorial Athletics Meet (May 23), and Paris Diamond League (May 20) earlier this season.
South Africa’s Douw Smit secured second place in the event, registering a personal best of 84.12m in his second attempt. The African athlete threw 80.48m, 81.96m, and 81.90m in his remaining three legal attempts, while he registered two foul throws in the javelin throw event.
Meanwhile, Grenada’s Anderson Peters finished third in the Ostrava Golden Spike 2025 with a best throw of 83.63m, which came off his very first attempt in the competition. He registered throws of 82.70m, 82.13m, 78.53m, 81.99m, and 81.53m in his remaining five throws.

Finland’s Toni Keranen recorded his season best of 82.26m in his third attempt. He registered three foul throws and a couple of throws below the 80m mark. Local lads from the Czech Republic, Martin Konečný and Jan Výška, registered their personal bests with throws of 80.59m and 76.49m, respectively.
