Ujjawal Choudhary shatters junior national record in discus throw at U20 Junior Nationals

En route to his gold, Ujjawal Choudhary also rewrote the 11-year-old meet record.
Ujjawal Choudhary, representing JSW, shattered the U20 National Record in the junior men’s discus throw event at the U20 Junior National Athletics Championships 2025 on Monday. The young Indian athlete registered a best throw of 59.51m to better his own Junior national record of 59.34m set on 20th March this year.
En route to his new U20 NR, Ujjawal also broke the meet record of 58.11m, held by Sachin, who set the record during the 2014 edition of the U20 Junior National Athletics Championships in Chennai.
The senior national record in men’s discus throw of 66.28 meters is held by Vikas Gowda, who set the record at the Old Style Discus Challenge in the USA in 2012.
Speaking of the event, Ujjawal Choudhary registered throws of 56.49m and 58.73m in his first two attempts before two foul throws. He registered the gold-medal winning throw of 59.51m in his fifth attempt and signed off with a 57.71m throw.
Haryana’s Nishchay won the silver medal with a best throw of 55.41m, while the bronze medal was awarded to Devansh Jagga, who finished the event with a best throw of 54.30m. None of the athletes competing in the event were close to Ujjawal’s record-breaking performance.
A total of 12 athletes competed in the men’s discus throw final on Day 2 of the U20 Junior National Athletics Championships 2025 at the Madan Mohan Malviya Sports Stadium in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The event saw participation from two athletes each, hailing from Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and two representing Reliance. One athlete each represented JSW, Rajasthan, ONGC, and Delhi in the U20 men’s discus throw final.
