Avinash Sable will represent India at the Xiamen Diamond League 2025.

The world’s best athletes are coming to Egret Stadium on April 26, where the Diamond League 2025 season will kick off. The event will feature 10 world record holders and 23 global champions.

For India, Avinash Sable will be back in action in the men’s 3000m steeplechase, which will be his first race of the 2025 season. The national record holder (8:09.91) last competed at the Brussels Diamond League Final in September 2024 and finished fifth in Xiamen two years ago with a time of 8:16.27.

The World Feed will have a major star attraction, World pole vault star Mondo Duplantis, fresh from being named Laureus World Sportsman of the Year, returns to the venue where he jumped 6.24m last season.The Swedish star, who has since improved his world record to an astonishing 6.27m in February, headlines a field including world silver medalist Ernest John Obiena and two-time world champion Sam Kendricks.

In another event featuring their own star athlete, middle-distance runner Faith Kipyegon of Kenya, a three-time Olympic 1500m champion, will participate in the 1000m in her season opener. The middle-distance legend sits just 0.17 seconds shy of Svetlana Masterkova’s 1996 world record in the event.

Another major attraction will be the women’s high jump, which will have an Olympic rematch as world record holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh (2.10m) faces Australia’s Nicola Olyslagers and Eleanor Patterson after their surprising podium shuffle at last month’s World Indoor Championships.

Note: Tokyo Olympic javelin champion Neeraj Chopra will not be a part of this league as the javelin throw isn’t featured in this Diamond League meet. Chopra is expected to begin his season at the Doha Diamond League next month.
