Soufiane El Bakkali won the gold with a time of 8:25:13s at the finals of the 3000m steeplechase event.

Avinash Sable gave his best in the final of the 3000m steeplechase at the World Athletics Championships on Tuesday by clocking a time of 8:31:75s, but that wasn’t enough for him to win a medal for the nation. This was his second successive final appearance at the World Championships. Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkali claimed gold with a time of 8:25:13s. Laecha Girmia of Ethiopia won silver, while Conseslus Kipruto of Kenya bagged bronze in the finals.

Earlier in the event, Avinash Sable had qualified for the finals of the 3000m steeplechase event by finishing at third position with a time of 8:18:75s. The 27-year-old, who is based out of Beed district in Maharashtra, shattered his own 3000m steeplechase national record for the eighth time in June earlier this year.

Though he couldn’t round off the podium with a medal, he won millions of hearts that would help him gain so much confidence for future events.

India’s next big hope for a medal is with Neeraj Chopra, who will start his campaign soon. Neeraj has become everyone's favourite after winning gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Other Indian players who will fight for the title are Rohit Yadav, Annu Rani, to name a few.

Indian athletes will be competing in the Javelin throw men's and women's as well as Triple Jump and Relay in the remaining events. The World Athletics Championship 2022 is held at Oregon, USA and will run up to 24th of July.
