The 40th edition of the Badminton Asia Championships is set to take place from April 25 to 30, 2023 at the Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Indoor Hall in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Lee Zii Jia and Wang Zhiyi are the defending champions in the men’s and women’s singles sections respectively. PV Sindhu was the lone Indian to win a medal (bronze) in the previous edition.
India’s second-best ranked women’s singles player Saina Nehwal has withdrawn from the Badminton Asia Championships. This is the third tournament in 2023 from which Saina has pulled out (All England Championships and Swiss Open).
The London Olympics bronze medallist did not attend the trials for the continental event in January. PV Sindhu, Malvika Bansod, and Aakarshi Kashyap will be leading the Indian women’s singles contingent.
Ashna Roy / Haritha Harinarayanan (Women's Doubles), Ashwini Ponnappa / Sumeeth Reddy (Mixed Doubles), and P.S. Ravikrishna / Sankar Udaykumar (Men's Doubles) have received direct entries into the main draw as per the latest updates.
