His quarter-final match against China's Li Shi Feng lasted for 82 minutes.

Anthony Sinisuka Ginting has become the first men’s singles player from Indonesia since 2007 to win Badminton Asia Championships. The WR 3 defeated the 2021 World Championships gold medallist, Loh Kean Yew in the final in straight games 21-12, 21-8. The Indonesian had complete control of the match and conceded only twenty points overall.

It was also a successful outing for WR 7 Loh Kean Yew, who became the first Singaporean to reach the men’s singles final at the Badminton Asia Championships.

Ginting, the Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist, had smooth sailing throughout the tournament. Apart from the quarter-final match, he did not face any major hiccups. The match against Li Shi Feng in the quarters lasted for 82 minutes (the longest match in the current edition) but with experience, Ginting came out all guns blazing.

His countrymate and tournament’s top seed Jonathan Christie was set to play the Chinese top seed Shi Yuqi in the opening round but the former gave away a walkover, ending his stay.

Apart from Ginting, the mixed doubles pair of Dejan Ferdinansyah and Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja (bronze medal) was the only medallist from Indonesia in the Continental meet. Indonesia had two seeded pairs in the men’s doubles section but none of them could cross the quarter-finals stage. The third-seeded pair “Daddies” lost to eventual champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty in the quarter-finals whereas the top-seeded pair of Fajar Alfian and Rian Ardianto lost in the other quarter-finals to finalists Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi.
