Round of 16 Summary

India's top seed in men's singles HS Prannoy, former world number one Kidambi Srikanth, and Asian Champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty fondly called "SatChi" progressed through to the quarter-finals of Indonesia Open 2023. Kidambi Srikanth defeated Commonwealth Games gold medallist and countrymate Lakshya Sen in straight games (21-17, 22-20). With this Srikanth also increased his h2h against Lakshya to 3-0 at the BWF circuit.

Malaysia Masters winner and WR-9, HS Prannoy did not face any hiccups and progressed comfortably to the quarter-finals by defeating Hong Kong (China) NG Angus Ka Long in straight games (21-18, 21-16). Orleans Masters champion Priyanshu Rajawat put up a great show against second seed and home favourite Antony Sinisuka Ginting.

The 21-year-old from Madhya Pradesh won the opening game (22-20) after trailing by six points (5-11) at the mid-game interval. Since then it was a one-man show by Olympic bronze medallist Antony Ginting who started to play aggressively. It was a good learning curve for the youngster who was playing his first BWF 1000 tournament in his career.

In the men's doubles, SatChi had a smooth sailing to the quarter defeating mighty Chinese He Ji Ting/Zhou Hao Dong (17-21, 15-21) in straight games. PV Sindhu on the other hand suffered her 19th defeat against her rival and former world number one Tai Tzu Ying. The two-time Olympic medallist lost the match in straight games (18-21, 16-21).
