Malaysia men's doubles pair Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi have reached their eighth consecutive BWF Super 750 quarter-finals. The pair achieved this unique feat after defeating Indonesia's Pramudya Kusumawardana and Yacob Rambitan in the Round of 16 at the Singapore Open 2023. The WR 7, has been the most consistent pair in the BWF doubles circuit having reached the quarter-final stages 25 times out of the 37 tournaments (across all categories ex - BWF 300, 500, 750 etc) that they have featured in.
Ong/Teo won their first major medal (bronze) at the World Championships in 2021. They also recently finished runner-up to Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty at the Badminton Asian Championships 2023.
Although they have reached several quarter-finals, the Malaysian number two pair are yet to win a BWF tour title. They reached the final of the Thailand Masters way back in 2020 and were in a good position to bag the title but unfortunately couldn't.
Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi have had a steady start to the 2023 season reaching the quarter-finals stage four times and finishing inside the podium once. They reached the final of the Badminton Asia Championships and were in a pole position to lift the title. But Satwik and Chirag came from behind to win the continental title for the first time.
Malaysia for the past decade has been producing seasoned shuttlers and the men's doubles category in particular has had greater depth. The East Asian country has two men's doubles pair inside the top 10 of the BWF rankings. Reigning World Champions Chia and Soh are ranked fourth while Ong and Teo are ranked seventh in the current BWF World rankings. There are a few more young pairs who are set to stamp their authority on the world stage.
