Indian top ranked men's singles player HS Prannoy and Commonwealth Games 2014 gold medallist Parupalli Kashyap won their respective opening round encounters on day 2 of Taipei Open 2023 (BWF 300). In the mixed doubles section, newly formed pair of Rohan Kapoor and Sikki Reddy progressed through after defeating compatriots Bokka Navaneeth and Priya Konjengbam in straight games.
A total of seven Indian players in the singles category (including men's and women's) lost in the opening round. WR 76 and 2022 Junior Championships silver medallist Sankar Muthusamy lost to seeded Kanta Tsuneyama in straight games. Upcoming stars, Mithun Manjunath and Kiran George put up a valiant fight against home favourite Chou Tien Chen and Hong Kong (China) Angus Ka Long respectively.
