HS Prannoy exit ends India's challenge at Taipei Open 2023

None of the Indians apart from Malaysia Masters winner featured in the quarter-finals

Indian top ranked men's singles player HS Prannoy lost to fifth seed from Hong Kong (China) in straight games (19-21, 8-21) in the men's singles quarter-finals at the Taipei Open 2023. With this loss, the Indian participation at the competition came to an end with Prannoy the lone shuttler to feature in the quarter-finals.

The world ranked ninth started the match on a positive note winning three straight points and then the game went into a tussle with both players exchanging points simultaneously. Angus Ka Long stood out in the net play deceiving the Indian. In the end, Angus took the opening game and did not find any difficulty in the second winning the game and match with ease. The h2h record after the match stands at six all.

Later in the day, men's doubles top seed from Malaysia Ong/Teo survived a scare against home pairing of Chih Lee/Jeng Lee. The Chinese Taipei pair won the opening game and were five points ahead (14-9) in the second game. The Malaysians with loads of experience titled the match from here securing the game and ultimately the match (15-21, 21-19, 21-17).

On the other hand, home favourite and women's top seed Tai Tzu Ying made it to the semi-finals comfortably with straight games win over sixth seed Supanida Kathetong (21-16, 21-6). In the last match for the day fourth seeded men's doubles pair from Taipei Jhe Huei/Po-Hsuan lost to higher seeded Malaysians Man Wei Chong/Kai Wun Tee (19-21, 19-21).
