Saina Nehwal and Malvika Bansod withdraw from the competition
The Asian leg of BWF World Tour is set to come to an end with the completion of Taipei Open 2023. Few of the world top shuttlers are set to participate in the BWF 300 tournament set to be held from 20th June to 25th June in Chinese Taipei.
Several players have withdrawn from the tour including the men's top seed singles player Kodai Naraoka. The upcoming Japanese youngster lost in the quarter-finals to India's top seed HS Prannoy last week at the Indonesia Open (BWF 1000). He is set to be replaced by Commonwealth Games 2014 gold medallist Parupalli Kashyap. Interestingly, Kashyap first played in the tournament at the age of 21 way back in 2007.
From the Indian perspective, second highest ranked women's singles player Saina Nehwal along with youngster Malvika Bansod withdraws from the competition (reason unknown). Saina in particular has been going through a bad patch and has missed out on five events prior to this (Swiss Open, All England Badminton Championships, Sudirman Cup trials, Badminton Asia Championships, and Malaysia Masters).
In the mixed doubles, top seeds (Goh Soon Huat/Lai Shevon Jemie) will be replaced by Wang Chan/Shin Seung Chan. With the withdrawal of Naraoka home favourite Chou Tien Chen will have an upper hand in the men's singles having already won the competition four times out of the last five editions.
