Sen beat China's Li Shi Feng to lift his first BWF World Tour title in 11 months.

Amul has dedicated a doodle to celebrate Lakshya Sen's triumph in the BWF Canada Open 2023. The doodle shows Lakshya swinging his racket while munching on bread and butter. The dairy cooperative company is known for making such artistic displays of current events.

Despite top seed Viktor Axelsen's withdrawal from the event, there was no shortage of top tier challengers. Lakshya Sen was an undeniable underdog in the tournament which had some big names contesting in it but the 21-year-old managed to go past them easily. Such was his dominance that he did not drop even a single game on his way to victory.

In the finals, Lakshya was pitted against the All England champion Li Shi Feng. The man from Almora went on to beat the Chinese opponent 21-18, 22-20 in a closely fought game.

Sen had also beaten fourth seed Kenta Nishimoto in the semi-finals in straight games 21-17, 21-14). Kunlavut Vitidsarn the second seeded player in the competition also suffered the same fate at the hands of the Indian shuttler (21-18, 21-15).

The Canada Open title helped Lakshya Sen jump seven spots in the latest BWF rankings. Lakshya is now ranked 12th in the world as per the BWF world rankings issued on July 11 (Tuesday). With 54,901 points to his name, Sen is the second highest-ranked Indian after HS Prannoy, who lost one place to be at ninth spot with 67,677 points. Sen is the highest mover in the latest rankings.

It will be interesting to see how Sen fares in the upcoming months. If he continues this form it's only a matter of time till he makes it to the top 5 in the world and subsequently the number one position. Though the Canadian Open did miss out on the classic Sen vs Axelsen match-up which would have surely got the fans excited.
