Lakshya Sen jumps seven spots to become world number 12 in latest BWF rankings

The Indian star shuttler lifted the Canada Open title last week.
Indian ace shuttler Lakshya Sen jumped ahead by seven spots to become the world number 12 in men's singles in the latest BWF (Badminton World Federation) World Rankings released on July 11 (Tuesday). The 21-year-old remained stagnant around WR-20 for past few months but a title win at the Canada Open 2023 has helped him climb seven spots and get closer to entering the top 10 yet again.
Two-time Olympic medalist, PV Sindhu, also made good progress by jumping three spots to world number 12 in women's singles. She was placed in the 15th position last week - her worst ranking in over a decade but she has once again crawled back to WR-12 after semi-finals finish last week at the Canada Open 2023.
Commonwealth Games 2022 champion, Lakshya Sen's next aim will be to get back to the top 10. Sindhu was in the top 10 for close to eight years from November 2016 to June 2023 but a string of poor performance since early January this year saw her slide outside the top 10. A string of good performances will help Sindhu get back to the top and also simultaneously help her bag valuable Paris Olympics 2024 qualification points.
Other Indians in the fray did not see any significant progress as all are getting ready for the next set of Asian leg which starts in Korea from the fourth week of July. India's top ranked men's singles player HS Prannoy has slid down by a spot to WR-9. On the other hand, Kidambi Srikanth retains his previous week's position of WR-20.
Asian champions, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty remain steady at WR-4, with the next best Indian men's doubles pair MR Arjun/Dhruv Kapila are stationed at WR-26. In the women's doubles category, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand dropped down by two spots to WR-18. The young pair has been out of action for the past month - last played at the Indonesia Open.
Similarly, Rohan Kapoor and Sikki Reddy too dropped by two spots to WR-35 in mixed doubles. The BWF World tour now shifts south, to the USA after the successful completion of Canada Open last week.
