Canada Open: Full list of title winners
Only three Indians have managed to win trophies at the Markin-MacPhail Centre so far.
The Markin-MacPhail Centre in Calgary, Canada is set to host the Canada Open 2023 from July 4 to July 9. The winner will get a cash prize of $9,200 for the BWF World Tour Super 500 competition as part of the $420,000 in total prize money. The competition is the fourth Super 500 competition of the 2023 BWF World Tour.
The Canadian National Championships were first established in 1957 with significant assistance from the Canadian Badminton Federation. Till 1961, this significant competition was held concurrently with the Canada Open. However, it was decided to hold them as two separate competitions in 1962. Badminton Alberta and Badminton Canada have been the organizing bodies behind this event, which also has the support of the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
Hosts Canada has been the most successful nation in the history of the event, winning seven men’s singles, 22 women’s singles, nine men’s doubles, 11 women’s doubles, and 11 mixed doubles. England and South Korea are the second and third most dominant nations in the Canada Open, with 46.5 and 28 titles, respectively. While Denmark isn’t far behind South Korea, having claimed 27.5 titles already. Earlier, in the doubles events, two participants from two distinct nations could pair up together.
