Korea Open 2023: PV Sindhu, Srikanth knocked out; HS Prannoy, Priyanshu Rajawat reach pre-quarters
Mixed doubles pair of Rohan Kapoor and N Siki Reddy also advanced to the round of 16 stage.
India's top ranked men's singles shuttler HS Prannoy alongside youngster Priyanshu Rajawat progressed to the pre-quarterfinals of Korea Open 2023. Young mixed doubles pairing of Rohan Kapoor and Sikki Reddy too progressed with a comfortable opening round win. Overall, only these players/pair registered victories on day 2 with the rest losing their matches.
Two-time Olympics medalist PV Sindhu lost to WR-22 Pai Yu Po in three games (18-21, 21-10, 13-21). She has officially announced Hafiz Hashim, who has accompanied her to Korea, as her new personal coach. Sindhu needs to find her mojo back as she fell out of the top 15 in this week's BWF rankings - first time in over a decade.
None of the other female shuttlers won their respective singles match bringing an end to India's challenge in the women's singles section. 'Who after Sindhu' has been a constant question circulating around and none of them currently seem to show any promise.
In the men's singles, Kidambi Srikanth lost a crucial encounter against former world number one Kento Momota. He had the game in his hands in the decider but lost easy points to hand away the Japanese a victory. This is also Srikanth's 12th consecutive loss against Momota.
Next up, HS Prannoy is set to take Lee Cheuk Yeu for a place in the quarter-finals, whereas Priyanshu Rajawat is set to face number one seed Kodai Naraoka.
