Satwiksairaj Rankireddy smashes 'Guinness World Record' for fastest badminton hit

Satwik surpassed the previous record by 72 kmph.
India's Satwiksairaj Rankireddy made headlines after recording the fastest shot ever in badminton at a speed of 565 kmph. In the process, the Indian also added another record to his armory by entering the Guinness Book of World Records for the fastest badminton shot ever.
The Asian champion leapfrogged Malaysia's Tan Boon Heong's record of 493 kmph, who was the Asian Games champion in 2006. Alongside Satwik, Pearly Tan recorded the fastest smash in the women's section at 438 kmph. With this, Tan became the first female Guinness World Record holder in the category.
Both Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Pearly Tan’s World Record attempts were conducted under controlled conditions at the Yonex Tokyo Factory in Soka, Japan on April 14th 2023.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy alongside his partner Chirag Shetty have been one of the most consistent men's doubles pair in Indian badminton. They were crowned the champions of Asia after defeating Malaysia's Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi in the final.
After a span of few months, the Indian pair clinched the Indonesia Open title - BWF 1000 and became the first Indians to win the BWF 1000 title. The current WR-3 pair will look to continue their good form with the Paris Olympics 2024 fast approaching.
