Badminton: Indian men's team seeded fourth, women's team enter as unseeded at Hangzhou Asian Games 2023

India have won five bronze medals in team events at the Asiad till date.

In the upcoming Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China, the Indian men's badminton team have been seeded fourth in the team competition, while the women's team will enter the competition unseeded, as revealed by Badminton Asia. The top seed in the men's team event are Indonesia, followed by hosts China, the defending champions, as the second seed. Japan are seeded third.

This seeding means that the Indian men's team, which includes HS Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth, Lakshya Sen, Mithun Manjunath, and doubles pairs Satwik Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty and Dhruv Kapila/Arjun MR, will have a direct entry into the quarterfinals, scheduled for September 29.

The Indian men's team will look to end a 37-year-long medal drought in the team event, with India's last medal coming in the 1986 Asian Games. The Indian men's team will be led by HS Prannoy, a bronze medalist at the World Championships 2023, and will have high hopes for success in Hangzhou.

China, the silver medalist from 2018, are the top seed in the women's team event, with Korea following as the second seed. Japan, the gold medalist from Jakarta 2018, are seeded third, while Thailand are the fourth seed. Host China will be joined by 10 other countries in the women's team competition, including Korea, Japan, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, India, Hong Kong China, Maldives, Mongolia, and Nepal.

The Indian women's team, led by two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu, features a lineup that includes Ashmita Chaliha, Anupama Upadhyaya, Malvika Bansod, and doubles pairs Gayatri Gopichand Pullela/Treesa Jolly and Ashwini Ponnappa/Tanisha Crasto.

In 2014, India secured a bronze medal in the women's team event, and this youthful Indian squad will be eager to surprise other teams when they commence their campaign on September 28 in the elimination round.
