Taiwanese player claimed her 4th title.
Tai Tzu Ying, the world number four and four-time BWF World Tour Finals champion, had a hilarious reaction when she received the trophy for winning her fourth title at the season-ending event in Hangzhou on Sunday.
The Taiwanese star made a remarkable comeback from a game down to beat Carolina Marin 12-21, 21-14, 21-18 in the womenâs singles final. Upon lifting the title she became emotional and thanked her fans and supporters.
Tai Tzu Ying was in a playful mood after the match and joked that she was not impressed by the trophy. She said, âAll these trophies, they look the same. The only one I liked was the Guangzhou tower trophy, but I missed that one.â
In 2019, Tai Tzu Ying reached the BWF World Tour Finals in Guangzhou but lost to Chen Yufei in a grueling match. Chen Yufei came back from a game down to beat Tai Tzu Ying 12-21, 21-12, 21-17.
In another match, Viktor Axelsen made history by winning his fifth BWF World Tour Finals title in Hangzhou, China on Sunday (17 December). The Danish star, who is the reigning olympic champion, defeated the 2018 winner Shi Yuqi 21-11, 21-12 in just 49 minutes. He also broke a tie of four season-ending titles with Lee Chong Wei and matched the Malaysianâs record of three consecutive crowns.
