Scheduled to unfold at the K. D. Jadhav Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, India, the Yonex Sunrise India Open 2024, is set to be a captivating badminton tournament running from January 16 to 21. With a substantial total prize pool of US$850,000, this prestigious event is poised to attract top-notch badminton talent, promising an exciting showcase of skill and competition on the courts of the Indian capital.
As the second event on the 2024 BWF World Tour, the 2024 India Open holds a significant place in the badminton calendar. Continuing the rich tradition of the India Open championships, which commenced in 1973, this tournament is organized by the Badminton Association of India.
With official sanction from the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the event stands as a testament to India’s longstanding contribution to the global badminton scene. It serves as a platform for top-tier competition and is an integral part of the BWF World Tour.
In the year 2024, India Open saw a bunch of withdrawals from the tournament. Viktor Axelsen though his social media account has conveyed, “Hi all, after my match on Saturday I’ve been laying in bed ill and after talking with the medical team present here in Malaysia, I’ve been advised to get an additional checkup.
“That means that I unfortunately won’t be able to travel and be present at the India Open this year, which is rather disappointing as it has been a tournament where I’ve loved to play in front of the Indian badminton fans.”
Carolina Marin took her Instagram to share, “My love for India is immense.” She had to withdraw from Malaysia Open as well due to flu. Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong are similarly attacked by virus.
Toh Ee Yi wrongly applied for his visa on his old passport and hence had to go back to his country.
