Tai Tzu Ying reaffirms decision to retire at the end of 2024 season

She is one of the strong contenders to win the women’s singles title at 2024 India Open.
Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei has reaffirmed her decision to retire at the end of the 2024 BWF World Tour season. The former World No.1 women’s singles player is currently battling it out at the India Open 2024. Currently ranked at No.3 in singles, the 29-year-old is set to bid adieu to professional badminton at the end of the 2024 BWF World Tour.
She has won several notable tournaments and medals during her illustrious career. She is an Olympic silver medallist after achieving it during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In addition, the Taiwan-born athlete won the silver and a bronze medal at the BWF World Championships in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
One of the greatest female badminton players of all time
Many badminton experts and passionate fans regard Tai Tzu Ying as one of the greatest female badminton players of all time. At the time of writing this, the 29-year-old has won 501 career matches and is set to add more to her record by the time she retires.
Tai Tzu Ying won the gold and the bronze medals at the prestigious Asian Games in 2018 and 2014 respectively. Furthermore, she is a three-time Asian Championships gold medal winner and has also secured a bronze at the highly competitive tournament which attracts top Asian athletes.

Most notably, Tai Tzu Ying holds the record for staying at the top of the rankings for the longest time, a total of 214 weeks. Moreover, she is a three-time winner of the All England Open which is one of the most prestigious, competitive and the oldest badminton tournaments in the world.
Her retirement will affect the Chinese Taipei badminton fraternity deeply as she is not only popular with the fans but also a trailblazer in terms of female athletes who want to pursue the sport professionally.
