Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino became the first mixed double pairs from Japan to win.

World No. 1, An Se Young, created history by becoming the first Korean women’s singles player to win the Malaysia Open title. The world champion defeated Tai Tzu Ying in the finals (10-21,21-10,21-18) at the fully packed Axiata Arena. An Se Young who recently lost to Tai at the BWF World Tour finals after being 10-19 down in the decider took her sweet revenge as she got the better of TTY this time.

An Se Young finished as a runner up last year at Malaysia Open after losing to Akane Yamaguchi (21-12,19-21,10-21). She was so close to winning the title last year but the dream to win the Malaysia Open tile was fulfilled this time after winning against Tai Tzu Ying. This will be the fourth Super 1000 title for An Se Young.

Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino become first Japanese pair to win Malaysia Open mixed doubles title

Another record was created on Sunday when Japanese pair Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino became the first mixed doubles pair from Japan to win the Malaysia Open mixed doubles title. The Indian Open Champion defeated Kim Won Ho and Jeong Na Eun in straight games (21-18,21-15). They just dropped only one game in the entire tournament.
